Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Academic Research and Knowledge Management Systems
Issue Vol. 1 No. 01 (2026): January February 2026 --- Section Articles --- Published Date: 2026-01-01
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in academic research and knowledge management systems (KMS) across the globe. The rapid development of machine learning, natural language processing, big data analytics, and automation technologies has fundamentally changed how knowledge is generated, organized, disseminated, and preserved. Universities and research institutions increasingly rely on AI-powered tools to enhance literature reviews, data analysis, plagiarism detection, citation management, predictive modeling, and research collaboration. Knowledge management systems, traditionally designed for storage and retrieval of information, are now evolving into intelligent platforms capable of semantic search, pattern recognition, and decision support. This research paper examines the multifaceted impact of AI on academic research and knowledge management. It explores conceptual foundations, opportunities, challenges, ethical implications, and future prospects. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical methodology supported by primary and secondary data. Findings suggest that AI enhances research efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration but raises concerns regarding data privacy, algorithmic bias, and academic integrity. The paper concludes that while AI has the potential to revolutionize academic ecosystems, its implementation must be guided by ethical frameworks, transparency, and responsible governance.
